Granted, it's a very old quote, but it's  relevant to my recent revelations on emotions and expression. Yet another reason to love Muse.

My improv teachers keep telling us to commit to a character and just go for it all the way. Commit, express, be affected, allow yourself to get caught up in the emotions of the moment. That's unfamiliar territory in my case, but I'm learning.

Apocalyptic star gazing

As much as I talk about stars and astrology and NASA and conspiracies, I've never actually seen stars in real life. Being a big city girl all my life, I've never seen more stars that I can count. It's on my to do list. 

In the mean time, this combines several of my favorite things: stars, crescendos, composition, photography, simplicity and a hint of Muse with the electric guitar/symphony piece by Hans Zimmer.

Post Secret and Improv

Post Secret it a hugely popular website where strangers write their secrets on a post card and mail them in anonymously.

Improv is the creation of a scene/skit/play/whatever as it's being performed with the intent of being entertaining/humorous. Maybe that's not the best definition on the planet, but it's what I can come up with at 2 in the morning.

The reason I'm posting at 2 in the morning is that I just got back from a long-form improv show and checked the Post Secret website for updates, and noticed some interesting similarities between the two. Both are enrapturing because they're rooted in stories from real people. We want to see honesty and be intimate with someone and to be trusted enough to see the naked truth.

And yet, both are fake. The submissions for the post cards are anonymous. The stories that are created in improv, while based on real stories, are completely made up. People want intimacy from others without giving of themselves, and there are far more people reading post cards and watching shows than there are submitters and performers.

I really really really want a relationship with really intense and mutual trust, honesty and intimacy. Until that happens, I guess I'll keep doing improv and learn to get comfortable with sharing myself even if it's not reciprocated.

When I was a teenager, I spent the better part of my evenings and weekends selling men's dress shirts and ties. At the time, I thought that the reason I liked neck ties to much was because of all the different colors and patterns. 

But maybe it's just a tie fetish...

Politics: What not to do #1

Now that I think about it, the reason I got a degree in political science is because I thought it was incredibly funny. It's all such a huge joke- the campaigns, the personalities, the scandals... I love all of it. 

A friend sent me this video a few hours ago and it's genius. Too bad his Masters in Communication didn't help him secure the nomination.

 

His speech reminds me of Dom from Office Space when he met with the consultants.

I have PEOPLE SKILLS!! I am GOOD at DEALING with PEOPLE!! Can't you understand that?! What the hell is WRONG with YOU PEOPLE??!
