I went to dinner with my mother and two of her friends the other night. One is a lawyer, and the other is incredibly interesting. She's been a singer in a band, a band director, an artist, an art teacher, and has toured all over in the places where you can find gypsy fortunetellers. My mother has been a botanist, artist, gaming warden, sales woman, and all around thrill-seeker.
Right now I'm a blob of inherited talents. Artist, musician, actress, politician, journalist... just like everyone else in my family. Except they tend to specialize in one are where I'm a Jack of all trades and master of none.
Over dinner, we had a lovely stream of consciousness-style chat and they managed to put all of the pieces together. Communicate, ask, and you'll get the answers you need.
I even casually mentioned that I've always wanted to play piano. The lawyer has a keyboard that hasn't been touched in two years along with instructional DVDs, so it looks like that dream is going to manifest itself next week. I couldn't be more excited about it. Music has always been a huge part of my life and I've missed playing an instrument.
It's amazing how much good has started coming into my life now that I've dropped all of the things that were making me unhappy.
That's funny... I got myself a bass guitar last May. :)
